Three sets were played in the 2026 US Open women’s singles final between Elena Rybakina and Aryna Sabalenka.
Rybakina won the opening set 6–4, Sabalenka took the second 7–5, and Rybakina won the deciding set 6–2. Because the match went to a third set, it was longer than a straight-sets final but did not require a fourth set.
Women’s singles Grand Slam matches are best-of-three sets, unlike men’s singles matches at the Grand Slams, which are best-of-five. That format difference explains why a women’s singles final can last two or three sets, while a men’s singles final can last anywhere from three to five.
The three-set victory secured Rybakina’s first US Open championship and ended Sabalenka’s two-year winning streak at the tournament.
