The Flintstones originally ran for six seasons. The series began in 1960 and concluded its first-run broadcast in 1966, producing 166 episodes across those six seasons.
Hanna-Barbera’s sitcom followed Fred and Wilma Flintstone, their neighbors Barney and Betty Rubble, and a growing cast of prehistoric comic characters. Although the setting was fictional, the show was structured like a contemporary family sitcom, with workplace troubles, domestic disagreements, consumer fads, and neighborhood adventures.
The six-season total can be confused with the show’s many later spin-offs, specials, films, and revival series. Those productions expanded the Flintstones franchise but are not additional seasons of the original series. Likewise, syndicated reruns and repeated broadcasts did not extend its original run.
The final season aired during 1965–66. By then, the series had already become a defining prime-time animated production, and its six-season run helped make Fred Flintstone one of television animation’s enduring characters.
