The 2004–05 Phoenix Suns recorded 62 regular-season wins under future Hall of Fame inductee Mike D’Antoni.
Phoenix finished 62–20, giving the team the best record in the NBA that season. The Suns were led by Steve Nash, who won the NBA Most Valuable Player award, and by Amar’e Stoudemire, Shawn Marion, and Joe Johnson.
The team’s success came from D’Antoni’s fast, space-oriented offense. Phoenix pushed the ball, created open three-point opportunities, and used Nash and Stoudemire’s pick-and-roll partnership to put constant pressure on defenses.
The Suns reached the Western Conference Finals but lost to the San Antonio Spurs. Their 62-win campaign nevertheless became a landmark season for D’Antoni’s coaching identity and for the spread of pace-and-space ideas in the NBA.
