How many quarter designs did the U.S. Mint authorize for the 2026 Semiquincentennial?

The story behind the answer

The U.S. Mint authorized five quarter designs for the 2026 Semiquincentennial.

The designs form a special circulating series connected with the 250th anniversary of American independence. The themes listed for the series include the Mayflower Compact, the American Revolutionary War, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Gettysburg Address.

This five-design plan is separate from the American Women Quarters program, which ran from 2022 through 2025. It is also different from the 50 State Quarters program, which began in 1999 and featured a separate reverse for each state.

The quarter has repeatedly served as a vehicle for national commemorations. The 1975–1976 Bicentennial quarter used a colonial drummer on its reverse and carried the double date 1776–1976.
