C.S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia series contains seven published novels.
The books were published between 1950 and 1956. They are The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe; Prince Caspian; The Voyage of the Dawn Treader; The Silver Chair; The Horse and His Boy; The Magician’s Nephew; and The Last Battle.
Lewis did not publish the stories in the same order as their internal chronology. The Magician’s Nephew, for example, explains Narnia’s creation but appeared sixth in publication order. Many modern editions number it first because they present the books according to the fictional timeline.
The seven-book structure is complete: Lewis did not write an eighth Narnia novel. The series includes talking animals, mythical beings, portals between worlds, and recurring themes of sacrifice, loyalty, temptation, and restoration. The number seven is therefore tied to the published series itself, not merely to one particular edition’s marketing.
