Three promoted clubs competed in the 2026–27 Premier League opening round.
The promoted teams were Coventry City, Ipswich Town and Hull City. All three appeared in the first round of fixtures: Coventry visited Arsenal, Ipswich hosted Sunderland, and Hull hosted Manchester United.
Their opening results were mixed but memorable. Coventry lost 3–0, while Ipswich won 2–1 and Hull defeated Manchester United 2–0. That meant two of the three promoted clubs began their return to the top flight with victories.
Coventry had been away from the Premier League for 25 years, Hull for nine years and Ipswich for one year. The three clubs replaced West Ham United, Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers after those teams were relegated.
