There are seven Princesses of Heart in Kingdom Hearts lore. Their hearts are described as being made of pure light and lacking darkness, giving them a special role in the series’ mythology.
The original group consists of Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Alice, Jasmine, Belle, and Kairi. Although most are Disney characters, Kairi is an original Kingdom Hearts character whose connection to Radiant Garden and the wider conflict makes her especially important.
In the first Kingdom Hearts, Maleficent searches for the princesses because their combined hearts can help unlock the final keyhole and reach Kingdom Hearts. This plot often causes confusion with the Seven Guardians of Light, a separate group of heroes who oppose Xehanort in later games.
The number seven is also distinct from the thirteen seekers of darkness. Kingdom Hearts frequently contrasts these groups symbolically: seven pure lights against thirteen darknesses.
