James shot 22-for-33 from the field, including 8-for-10 from three-point range, and made 9 of 12 free throws. He also collected seven rebounds and four assists. The performance set a Miami Heat franchise record at the time and surpassed his previous career high of 56 points, scored for Cleveland in 2005.
The 61-point outburst was especially notable because James produced it efficiently rather than through a huge volume of missed shots. He scored 25 points in the third quarter and controlled the game as Miami pulled away from Charlotte. The Bobcats name was later retired when the franchise reverted to the Hornets identity.
The number is sometimes confused with James’s Lakers career high of 56 points, which he scored against Golden State in 2022. His overall NBA regular-season career high remains the 61-point Miami performance.
