A standard Fortnite Battle Royale match has 100 players dropping onto the map. Players begin by jumping from the Battle Bus and choosing where to land on the island.
The goal is to survive longer than every opposing player or team. After landing, players search buildings and locations for weapons, healing items, ammunition, and materials, while a shrinking storm gradually forces combat into a smaller area.
The number 100 describes the classic Battle Royale format and is the figure used in Fortnite’s original identity as a 100-player last-player-standing game. However, Fortnite also contains limited-time modes, team formats, Creative experiences, and other playlists with different player counts, so not every Fortnite match has exactly 100 participants. The wording “standard” is therefore important: it points to the traditional Battle Royale ruleset rather than every mode available on the Fortnite platform.
