Each Quidditch team in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books has seven players. The lineup consists of three Chasers, two Beaters, one Keeper, and one Seeker.
Chasers attempt to score through the opposing team’s hoops with the Quaffle, while Beaters use bats to protect teammates and redirect Bludgers. The Keeper defends the hoops, and the Seeker searches for the Golden Snitch. Catching the Snitch usually ends the match and awards 150 points.
The sport’s seven-player structure is easy to confuse with the number of balls used in a match. Quidditch features one Quaffle, two Bludgers, and one Golden Snitch, for four balls altogether. Rowling created the fictional sport for the wizarding world, and its rules later inspired real-world adaptations played by fans.
