How many passengers does the Gibbs Quadski carry?

The story behind the answer

The Gibbs Quadski carries one passenger—the rider. It combines the layout of a single-seat quad bike with the propulsion system and handling concept of a personal watercraft.

Gibbs Sports Amphibians designed the Quadski to switch between land and water. At the press of a control, its wheels retract into the hull and the vehicle changes from rear-wheel-drive ATV to jet-propelled watercraft. The original model used a marinised 1,293cc BMW K-series four-cylinder engine and could reach about 45 miles per hour on both surfaces.

The one-person capacity is deliberate. The rider sits astride the machine like an ATV or stand-up-style personal watercraft, rather than inside a cabin or on a bench seat. Its composite hull, retractable suspension, and jet drive were engineered around that compact single-rider arrangement.

The most important mix-up is with the Quadski XL, a longer derivative that could accommodate two riders. “One” is therefore the canonical answer for the original Gibbs Quadski, while “two” can describe the XL variant. The Quadski line was produced in Michigan from 2013 to 2016 before production ended.
