The 1985 Live Aid concerts were staged in two official host cities.
The fundraising event took place simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in London and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia on July 13, 1985. The dual-venue format allowed artists in Britain and the United States to perform for a shared global television audience.
The London concert included performances by Queen, U2, David Bowie, and many other artists. The Philadelphia concert featured acts including Madonna, Bob Dylan, and Led Zeppelin’s surviving members with Phil Collins and Paul Shaffer among the performers involved in the United States program.
Live Aid was supported by satellite television coverage and became one of the largest international music broadcasts of its era. Other concerts and broadcasts contributed to the wider event, but London and Philadelphia were its two principal host venues.
