Dierks Bentley wrote 10 of the 13 songs on his album The Mountain. The 2018 record is his ninth studio album and reflects the influence of bluegrass, country, and rock.
Bentley developed much of the project after performing at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in Colorado. He then recorded the album in Telluride in November 2017 at a studio known as the Studio in the Clouds. The mountain setting helped shape the album’s roots-oriented sound and its themes of travel, freedom, relationships, and resilience.
The Mountain was released on June 8, 2018, and was produced by Jon Randall and Ross Copperman. Its three singles were “Woman, Amen,” “Burning Man,” featuring Brothers Osborne, and “Living.” Bentley was one of several songwriters on the record, so “wrote 10” means he received a writing credit on 10 tracks, not that he wrote every word or melody alone. The album’s 13-song count refers to its standard edition.
