The World Trade Organization had 166 members after Timor-Leste and Comoros joined in 2024.
Comoros and Timor-Leste completed their accessions at the WTO’s 13th Ministerial Conference in Abu Dhabi in February 2024. Their membership brought the organization’s total from 164 to 166. WTO membership includes countries and separate customs territories that control their external commercial relations.
The figure is sometimes confused with the number of United Nations member states. The WTO also has observers and accession candidates, and several economies participate through special arrangements. South Sudan remains among the governments seeking accession, so the total can change when a new membership protocol takes effect.
