As of 2024, three main Splatoon games had been released: Splatoon, Splatoon 2, and Splatoon 3.
The series began with Splatoon for the Wii U on May 28, 2015. Its colorful ink-based shooting and territory-covering Turf War established the franchise’s core identity. Splatoon 2 followed for Nintendo Switch on July 21, 2017, adding new stages, weapons, abilities, and the Octo Expansion downloadable content.
Splatoon 3 arrived on Nintendo Switch on September 9, 2022. It introduced the Splatlands setting, new movement abilities, additional multiplayer features, and the Return of the Mammalians single-player campaign. Its Side Order expansion was released in February 2024.
The count is three because expansions such as Octo Expansion and Side Order are add-on content, not separate main games. The series also includes manga and other related media, but those do not change the number of mainline video-game installments.
