How many Japanese delegates were named in advance for the 1945 surrender ceremony aboard USS Missouri?

The story behind the answer

Eleven Japanese delegates were named in advance for the 1945 surrender ceremony aboard USS Missouri.

The delegation consisted of two signatories and nine additional officials. Foreign Minister Mamoru Shigemitsu signed for the Japanese government, while General Yoshijirō Umezu signed for Imperial General Headquarters. The other delegates represented Japan's army, navy, and Foreign Ministry.

For security reasons, the Allies initially revealed only the names of the two people who would sign the document. The full list of eleven had been submitted to the Allies beforehand, allowing the ceremony planners to identify everyone who would attend without making the entire delegation public immediately.

The carefully controlled delegation reflected the political sensitivity of surrender. Emperor Hirohito had appealed to possible representatives after other prominent figures declined or were unavailable. The group traveled from Tokyo to Yokohama, then went aboard a launch that carried them to Missouri in Tokyo Bay.
