Which code name was given to the planned Allied invasion of Kyushu in Operation Downfall?

The story behind the answer

Operation Olympic was the planned Allied invasion of Kyushu, the southernmost of Japan’s four main islands.

Olympic was the first phase of Operation Downfall, the broader American plan for invading the Japanese home islands. It was scheduled for November 1945 and was intended to establish bases and secure southern Kyushu before a later attack on the Kantō Plain near Tokyo.

The second phase of Downfall was called Operation Coronet and was planned for March 1946. Coronet would have targeted Honshu, Japan’s largest island, and the area around Tokyo. Neither operation took place because Japan surrendered in August 1945 after the atomic bombings, the Soviet entry into the war against Japan, and political decisions within the Japanese government.

Operation Olympic is sometimes confused with Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of German-occupied France in June 1944. Overlord belonged to the European theater; Olympic belonged to the unexecuted invasion plan for Japan.
