The Toyota car emblem contains three interlocking ovals.
Toyota introduced the current oval logo in 1989, marking the company’s fiftieth anniversary. Its three ovals are arranged to form a stylized “T” and the brand name’s initial. Toyota explains the design as representing the relationship between the company and its customers, while the surrounding oval suggests the world embracing Toyota.
The inner shapes are also interpreted through their proportions: one oval represents the customer, another represents the company, and the overlapping space represents mutual trust and benefit. The design was created to remain recognizable at different sizes, including vehicle grilles and small controls.
The logo is sometimes mistaken for a set of two ovals because the central forms overlap closely. In fact, the badge uses three distinct oval outlines. Toyota also uses wordmarks and model-specific badges, but the three-oval mark is the company’s principal global emblem.
