The main Harry Potter film series consists of eight films.
The films adapt J. K. Rowling’s seven Harry Potter novels. The final novel, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, was split into two theatrical films, creating eight movies rather than seven. The series began with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in 2001 and concluded with Deathly Hallows – Part 2 in 2011.
Daniel Radcliffe played Harry Potter, Rupert Grint played Ron Weasley, and Emma Watson played Hermione Granger across all eight films. Their continued casting is one reason the series is often discussed as a single connected production.
The eight-film total does not include the separate Fantastic Beasts films, which are set in the same broader Wizarding World but follow different central characters and an earlier period. It also does not count the stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
