How many French Open titles has Rafael Nadal won?

The story behind the answer

Rafael Nadal has won 14 French Open titles.

Nadal captured his first Roland-Garros championship in 2005, defeating Mariano Puerta in the final. He went on to dominate the Paris clay, winning nine titles between 2005 and 2014, including five consecutive championships from 2010 through 2014.

After several more victories, Nadal claimed his 14th French Open title in 2022 by beating Casper Ruud in the final. His titles came in 2005–2008, 2010–2014, and 2017–2020, plus 2022. He never lost a French Open final, giving him a perfect 14–0 record in championship matches.

The number is often confused with his overall Grand Slam total: Nadal finished his career with 22 men's singles major titles. His French Open total is especially remarkable because it is a record for any player at any single Grand Slam tournament. He also compiled a 112–4 match record at the event.
