Disney+’s Cars on the Road contains nine episodes.
The animated series premiered on September 8, 2022, as part of Disney+ Day. It follows Lightning McQueen and Mater on a road trip across the United States as they encounter unusual towns, creatures, vehicles, and situations. Each episode uses a different genre or visual idea, including monster-movie, dinosaur, and haunted-road elements.
Cars on the Road continues the friendship between McQueen and Mater while functioning as an anthology-style journey. The episodes are shorter than the theatrical Cars films, allowing the series to tell compact stories rather than one long feature narrative.
The show was produced by Pixar Animation Studios and features Owen Wilson and Larry the Cable Guy returning as the voices of McQueen and Mater. Its nine-episode first season is distinct from the Cars short films released before it.
