Thirteen dwarves accompany Bilbo Baggins on the quest in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit.
The company is led by Thorin Oakenshield, heir to the kingdom beneath the Lonely Mountain. The other dwarves are Dwalin, Balin, Kíli, Fíli, Dori, Nori, Ori, Óin, Glóin, Bifur, Bofur, and Bombur. Gandalf also joins the expedition, and Bilbo serves as its burglar.
The group sets out to recover the treasure of Erebor from Smaug. The number thirteen is a deliberate feature of the company, and Bilbo becomes its fourteenth member when he accepts the adventure.
The group is sometimes counted incorrectly because Gandalf is included in scenes with the travelers, even though he is not one of the thirteen dwarves. Thorin’s company should therefore be distinguished from the full traveling party, which includes Bilbo and the wizard.
