Three different opening-title versions were made for the original The Wonder Years. Each version used Joe Cocker’s rendition of “With a Little Help from My Friends,” but the visuals and presentation changed across the series.
The earliest opening was notably simple: after the title logo, a black screen displayed the cast members’ names one at a time. Later versions used a more recognizable montage built from family photographs, childhood footage, and images evoking the late 1960s and early 1970s. The opening therefore evolved as the show’s identity became more established.
The number can be confusing because individual broadcasts, syndicated prints, and later streaming releases may contain edits or altered music. Those distribution differences are not additional original title versions. The canonical production count is three, and the familiar theme is Joe Cocker’s cover of the Lennon–McCartney song “With a Little Help from My Friends.”
