Fortnite has three different building material types: wood, brick, and metal.
In Fortnite Battle Royale’s traditional building system, players gather resources from the environment and spend them to create structures. Wood is generally easy to collect and builds quickly, brick offers a middle-ground option, and metal is slower to construct but becomes the strongest material once fully built.
The three materials support the game’s core building tactics. Players can place walls, floors, ramps, and roofs, then use construction to gain high ground, block incoming fire, cross gaps, or create defensive forts. Material choice therefore affects both speed and durability during a fight.
This answer refers to Fortnite’s standard building mechanics, not every game mode or temporary rule set. Fortnite also introduced Zero Build, a mode in which players cannot construct structures, but that does not change the traditional material classification. The numbers in the other options do not match the classic Battle Royale system.
