Principal photography for Christopher Nolan’s 2026 film The Odyssey lasted 91 days.
The shoot began on February 25, 2025, and concluded on August 8, 2025. According to production reports summarized in the film’s documentation, filming wrapped nine days ahead of schedule. The schedule covered a demanding mixture of desert, coastal, forest, castle, mountain, and studio work.
The opening scenes were filmed in Morocco, where Aït Benhaddou near Ouarzazate stood in for Troy at the end of the Trojan War. The production then moved through Greece, Italy, Los Angeles, Scotland, Iceland, Western Sahara, and Malta.
Nolan emphasized physical locations and practical filmmaking to convey the difficulty of Odysseus’s journey. The production also filmed maritime scenes with the Draken Harald Hårfagre, a modern Viking longship. Although the film includes fantastical elements, the director sought to present the world through tangible environments and natural phenomena.
