Spotify was available in 184 countries—or, more precisely, markets—as of 2023.
Spotify’s international expansion began in Europe after its 2008 launch, then spread through North America, Latin America, Oceania, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. By December 2022, the company described its service as available in 184 markets, a figure still used in reporting for 2023.
“Markets” is Spotify’s more precise term because the count can include territories and regions as well as sovereign countries. Availability can also vary by product: the core music service may operate in a market while podcasts, audiobooks, or specific features remain unavailable there.
The number does not mean Spotify is available everywhere. China, North Korea, Syria, Iran, and several other countries and territories have historically lacked full service, while Russia’s service was suspended after the 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Market totals can therefore change as licensing, regulation, and business decisions evolve.
