How many continents are conventionally taught in the seven-continent model?

The story behind the answer

The seven-continent model recognizes seven continents: Africa, Antarctica, Asia, Europe, North America, South America and Australia. This is the most commonly taught model in English-speaking countries.

Continents are large landmasses conventionally separated by geography, history and culture, so their classification is not determined by a single scientific rule. Europe and Asia form one continuous landmass, Eurasia, but are often counted separately for historical reasons.

Other educational systems use different models. Some combine Europe and Asia as Eurasia, while others combine North and South America as one continent or group Europe and Asia with Africa as Afro-Eurasia.
