Which country contains the ancient city of Petra, famous for the Treasury façade?

The story behind the answer

The ancient city of Petra, famous for its Treasury façade, is in Jordan.

Petra was the capital of the Nabataean Kingdom, an Arab state that flourished in the region from roughly the 4th century BCE until the Roman annexation in 106 CE. The city was carved and built in a narrow sandstone valley in what is now southern Jordan. Its location helped the Nabataeans control caravan routes linking Arabia, the Levant, and the Mediterranean world.

The building commonly called the Treasury is known locally as Al-Khazneh. Despite its name, archaeologists generally interpret it as a monumental tomb rather than a treasury. Petra also contains the Siq, the Monastery, royal tombs, temples, and an extensive water-management system that supported urban life in a dry environment.

Petra was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985 and became one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in 2007. It is in Jordan, not neighboring Israel or Lebanon.
