Björn Borg won five consecutive Wimbledon men's singles titles, from 1976 through 1980. The Swedish champion defeated Ilie Năstase in the 1976 final and completed the streak by beating John McEnroe in the celebrated 1980 final.
Borg’s first Wimbledon triumph was especially notable because he won the entire 1976 tournament without dropping a set. He repeated as champion in 1977, 1978, and 1979 before surviving the five-set 1980 final, which included a famous fourth-set tiebreak won by McEnroe 18–16.
The streak made Borg one of Wimbledon’s defining champions of the 1970s. During the same period, he also won four consecutive French Open titles from 1978 to 1981. His ability to excel on both clay and grass helped make the French Open–Wimbledon double one of tennis’s most demanding achievements.
“Five” refers to consecutive titles, not five total Wimbledon finals or five Grand Slam trophies overall. Borg won six French Open titles as well as his five Wimbledons, giving him 11 major singles championships before his early retirement at age 25.
