Boyz II Men’s “End of the Road” spent 13 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Released in 1992 on the Boomerang soundtrack, the ballad became the group’s first Billboard Hot 100 number-one single. Its 13-week run broke the previous record held by Elvis Presley’s “Don’t Be Cruel” and the Beatles’ “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” each of which had spent seven weeks at the top under the chart’s earlier records.
The song was written and produced by Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, L.A. Reid, and Daryl Simmons, with additional writing by Lewis A. Martinee. Its success helped establish Boyz II Men as a leading vocal group of the 1990s.
The original 13-week figure is easy to confuse with later chart records, because Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men later shared a much longer run with “One Sweet Day.” “End of the Road” remains a distinct 13-week achievement.
