Rafael Nadal won 5 consecutive French Open titles from 2010 through 2014. This five-year run made him the first man to win the French Open five times in succession.
Nadal began the streak by defeating Robin Söderling in the 2010 final. He then beat Roger Federer in 2011, Novak Djokovic in 2012 and 2014, and David Ferrer in 2013. The 2012 final was especially notable because it was interrupted by rain before Nadal completed the victory.
The streak came after Nadal had already won four straight French Open titles from 2005 to 2008; he missed the 2009 title, when Söderling defeated him in the fourth round. Nadal’s 2010–2014 sequence therefore formed the second major French Open championship run of his career.
Nadal eventually won 14 French Open singles titles, the record for the tournament and the most titles won at any Grand Slam event. His dominance at Roland-Garros is closely linked to his exceptional movement, heavy topspin and success on clay.
