Claude Monet and Camille Doncieux had two children together.
Their first son, Jean, was born in 1867, before Monet and Camille married in 1870. Their second son, Michel, was born in 1878. Jean later became involved in the family’s business interests, while Michel eventually inherited Monet’s Giverny property.
The family lived through periods of financial hardship, frequent moves, and Monet’s growing recognition as an artist. Camille’s death in 1879 left Monet caring for the children with help from relatives and friends, including Alice Hoschedé.
The number is sometimes confused because Alice Hoschedé brought her own children into Monet’s household after becoming his partner and later his wife. Thus, the household included more children, but Monet and Camille themselves had two sons.
