How many Academy Awards did The Grand Budapest Hotel win?

The story behind the answer

The Grand Budapest Hotel won four Academy Awards.

At the 87th Academy Awards, honoring films released in 2014, The Grand Budapest Hotel won Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and Best Original Score. Alexandre Desplat won the score award for his music for the film.

The movie received nine nominations overall, including Best Picture, Best Director for Wes Anderson, and Best Original Screenplay. Its four victories made it one of the ceremony’s leading winners, despite not taking the top awards for picture, directing, or screenplay.

The film’s awards reflected several of its most distinctive elements. Adam Stockhausen and Anna Pinnock won for production design, Milena Canonero won for costumes, Frances Hannon and Mark Coulier won for makeup and hairstyling, and Desplat won for the score. The Academy’s result is sometimes confused with the number of nominations: the film had nine nominations but won four.
