How many Academy Awards did Coco win?
Answer
Two
Coco won two Academy Awards: Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song.
At the 90th Academy Awards, held on March 4, 2018, Coco won Best Animated Feature for director Lee Unkrich and producer Darla K. Anderson. It also won Best Original Song for “Remember Me,” written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.
The film’s two Oscars are sometimes confused with its larger awards haul. Coco also won the BAFTA Award for Best Animated Film, the Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature Film, and 11 Annie Awards from 13 nominations. Those victories do not change its Academy Award total.
“Remember Me” is especially important to the story because it appears in several musical styles and carries the film’s central theme: loved ones remain present when their families preserve their memories. Coco was released in 2017 and became Pixar’s second film to win both the Animated Feature and Original Song Oscars.
