Pixar's Cars received two Academy Award nominations. The film was nominated for Best Animated Feature and for Best Original Song for “Our Town.”
Cars competed in the 79th Academy Awards, honoring films released in 2006. It was nominated alongside animated features including Happy Feet and Monster House in the Best Animated Feature category.
The song “Our Town,” written by Randy Newman, was performed in the film's end credits by James Taylor. It is distinct from Randy Newman's many other Pixar songs, including music associated with the Toy Story films.
Cars did not win either of its nominated categories. Happy Feet won Best Animated Feature, while “I Need to Wake Up” from An Inconvenient Truth won Best Original Song. The nomination count is sometimes confused with the film's later awards from other organizations.
