How high above the floor is an official table tennis table?

The story behind the answer

An official table tennis table is 76 centimetres above the floor.

That height is measured from the floor to the top of the playing surface. The table itself is rectangular, measuring 2.74 metres long and 1.525 metres wide. Its upper surface must be level and have a consistent, low-glare finish suitable for competition.

The 76-centimetre height is often confused with the 15.25-centimetre height of the net. The net sits on top of the table, so its upper edge is much higher than 76 centimetres from the floor. Together, these dimensions create the standard playing geometry used in clubs, tournaments, and the Olympic Games.

The table’s height also distinguishes a regulation table from many recreational or children’s models. Casual tables can use different construction and dimensions, but equipment used under International Table Tennis Federation rules follows the standard measurements.
