Givenchy is owned by LVMH, the French luxury conglomerate formally known as LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton SE. The group’s fashion and leather-goods portfolio also includes houses such as Louis Vuitton, Dior, Fendi and Celine.

Givenchy began as Hubert de Givenchy’s independent Paris couture house in 1952. LVMH acquired a controlling stake in the company in 1988, helping place the brand within a larger international luxury network. Hubert de Givenchy retired from designing in 1995, but the house continued under successive creative directors.

Ownership and brand identity are separate ideas: Givenchy remains a French fashion house even though its parent company owns a broad global portfolio. It is also easy to confuse LVMH with Kering or Richemont, other major luxury groups that own different collections of brands. Givenchy’s fashion, accessories and beauty activities are associated with the LVMH group.
