Fortnite Battle Royale's inventory can hold how many items at a time?

The story behind the answer

Fortnite Battle Royale’s inventory can hold five items at a time.

The five-slot limit is a foundational part of Battle Royale’s looting strategy. Players must decide whether to carry weapons, healing items, shields, mobility tools, or utility items, because picking up a sixth item requires replacing something already stored. That limitation makes inventory management part of combat preparation rather than a minor menu detail.

The harvesting tool, usually called the pickaxe, is supplied separately and does not occupy one of the five regular inventory slots. The five slots therefore refer to the item bar used for weapons and consumable or utility items during a match.

This number is easy to confuse with the number of weapons a player may carry, because several of the five slots are commonly filled with guns. However, the system counts all regular carried items together. A loadout might contain two weapons, healing, shields, and a mobility item, using all five spaces.
