Steve Jobs was the Apple co-founder born in San Francisco in 1955.
Jobs co-founded Apple Computer with Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne in 1976. The company’s early success came from making personal computers easier for non-specialists to use, beginning with the Apple I and Apple II.
Jobs left Apple in 1985 after a power struggle and founded NeXT. Apple later acquired NeXT in 1997, bringing Jobs back to the company. His return preceded the iMac, iPod, iPhone, and iPad launches.
A common mix-up is treating Jobs as Apple’s sole founder. Wozniak was the engineering partner, while Wayne briefly participated at the beginning. Tim Cook succeeded Jobs as Apple’s chief executive in 2011.
