America's 250th anniversary will be observed on July 4, 2026, marking 250 years since the Declaration of Independence was adopted.
The Second Continental Congress approved the Declaration on July 4, 1776. Although the Lee Resolution declaring independence passed on July 2, the later date became the anniversary celebrated as Independence Day.
The event is known as the United States Semiquincentennial and is also promoted through the America250 initiative. The date follows the same calendar anniversary pattern as the 1976 Bicentennial, which marked 200 years.
The celebration commemorates the founding-era declaration rather than the date the Constitution was signed or the date George Washington became president.
