For America250, which newspaper first printed the Declaration of Independence?

The story behind the answer

For America250, the Pennsylvania Evening Post was the first newspaper to print the Declaration of Independence. It published the document on July 6, 1776, two days after Congress adopted it.

The first printed copies were not newspaper pages. John Dunlap produced roughly 200 broadsides shortly after Congress approved the text, creating the famous first printed editions now called Dunlap broadsides. These were distributed through the colonies.

The Pennsylvania Evening Post then brought the Declaration into a newspaper format. The document was also publicly read in Philadelphia, Trenton, and Easton on July 8, helping spread its message beyond Congress and the printing shop.

The Pennsylvania Evening Post should not be confused with the Pennsylvania Gazette, an earlier and better-known Philadelphia newspaper associated with Benjamin Franklin. The two publications were separate, and the Evening Post holds the first-newspaper-publication distinction.
