Answer
National Archives Building
For America250, the original engrossed Declaration of Independence is displayed in the National Archives Building.
The parchment is exhibited in the Rotunda for the Charters of Freedom in Washington, D.C. The same gallery also displays the original United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights, placing three foundational documents together in a purpose-built national archive.
“Engrossed” means that the document was prepared as a formal, carefully written version on parchment. It differs from Jefferson’s rough draft and from early printed broadsides that circulated in 1776. The National Archives preserves the parchment as the authoritative surviving signed copy.
Independence Hall in Philadelphia remains essential to the story because Congress met there, then called the Pennsylvania State House, when it adopted the Declaration. However, the famous original parchment is not kept there. America250 visitors therefore encounter its founding-document history in both Philadelphia and Washington.
