For America250 history, which city hosted the 1787 Constitutional Convention?
Answer
Philadelphia
Answer
Philadelphia
Philadelphia hosted the 1787 Constitutional Convention that produced the United States Constitution.
Delegates met in the Pennsylvania State House, the building later renamed Independence Hall. The convention began on May 25, 1787, after enough state delegations arrived to establish a quorum, and continued until September 17. George Washington presided over the meeting.
The gathering was originally authorized to revise the Articles of Confederation, but delegates ultimately designed an entirely new system of government. Fifty-five delegates participated at some point, although only 39 signed the final document. Philadelphia also hosted the Continental Congress during the Revolutionary era, so the city became central to both the independence movement and the creation of the federal government.
