Columbia Glacier descends from the Chugach Mountains to what Alaskan sound?

The story behind the answer

Columbia Glacier descends from the Chugach Mountains to Prince William Sound in southern Alaska.

The glacier is a tidewater glacier: ice flows from the mountains to the coast and ends at sea level in the sound. Its main branch begins near the saddle between Mount Witherspoon and Mount Einstein, then flows toward the coast.

Columbia Glacier is especially notable for its rapid retreat, which began in the early 1980s. It is also among the world’s fastest-moving glaciers. A common mix-up is confusing Prince William Sound with nearby Cook Inlet or Icy Strait; those are separate Alaskan waterways. The glacier’s location in Prince William Sound is also why it is often discussed alongside other tidewater glaciers visited by ships in the region.
