By what English nickname is Hanukkah widely known?

The story behind the answer

Hanukkah is widely known in English as the Festival of Lights. The nickname highlights the holiday’s most visible ritual: lighting a Hanukkah menorah, or hanukkiah, over eight nights.

Hanukkah commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem after the Maccabean revolt against the Seleucid Empire in the second century BCE. According to the later rabbinic tradition recorded in the Talmud, a small supply of consecrated oil burned for eight days, allowing time to prepare more pure oil.

The Festival of Lights should not be confused with the biblical festivals named in the distractors. The Festival of Trumpets refers to Rosh Hashanah, the Festival of Weeks to Shavuot, and the Festival of Booths to Sukkot. Hanukkah begins on 25 Kislev and lasts eight nights, with one additional candle—the shamash—used to light the others.
