By the end of 30 Rock, Kenneth Parcell becomes president of NBC.
Kenneth begins the series as an intensely cheerful NBC page at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, where he gives tours, handles errands, and treats the network almost as a sacred institution. His improbable rise is one of the show’s long-running jokes: beneath his naïve manner, Kenneth possesses extraordinary loyalty, stamina, and knowledge of television.
In season seven, Jack Donaghy searches for his successor and initially considers several corporate-minded candidates. Kenneth objects when he believes the contenders lack genuine affection for television. Jack eventually recognizes that Kenneth’s devotion makes him the right choice and appoints him NBC’s president.
The promotion is central to the series finale. Kenneth is no longer merely a page serving executives; he is the executive receiving pitches, including one from Liz Lemon. The joke also pays off the show’s recurring suggestion that Kenneth may be immortal: in the distant-future coda, he still appears as NBC’s president. The answer is NBC, not Kabletown, the fictional company that acquired NBC within the show’s story.
