By how many runs did India win the 1983 Cricket World Cup final?

The story behind the answer

India won the 1983 Cricket World Cup final by 43 runs.

The final was played at Lord's on 25 June 1983, where India defended a modest total of 183 against the two-time defending champions, West Indies. India were dismissed in 54.4 overs, and the target appeared highly achievable on a good batting pitch.

West Indies reached 57 for 3, but India’s bowlers repeatedly broke through. Madan Lal removed key batsmen including Viv Richards, while Mohinder Amarnath took three wickets and earned Player of the Match honours. West Indies were eventually bowled out for 140 in 52 overs.

The 43-run victory gave India their first World Cup title and is widely regarded as a turning point in Indian cricket. It also ended West Indies’ run of two consecutive championships and prevented them from completing a third straight triumph.
