Billy Joel married Christie Brinkley in 1985.
The couple met in 1983 while both were visiting the Caribbean island of Saint Barthélemy, commonly called St. Barts. Their relationship became widely known after Brinkley appeared in Joel’s music videos, including “Uptown Girl,” which helped turn them into one of the most recognizable celebrity couples of the decade.
Joel and Brinkley married on March 23, 1985, aboard a yacht on the Hudson River. It was the second marriage for both of them. Later that same year, on December 29, they welcomed their daughter, Alexa Ray Joel; her middle name honored Ray Charles, one of Billy Joel’s musical heroes.
