Berkshire Hathaway is headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska.
The company’s headquarters are at 3555 Farnam Street in Omaha. Berkshire became closely associated with the city through Warren Buffett, who has led the company since 1965. Buffett’s annual shareholder letters and Berkshire’s yearly meeting have helped make Omaha internationally known among investors.
Berkshire Hathaway is a diversified holding company with businesses and investments spanning insurance, railroads, utilities, energy, manufacturing, retail, and financial assets. Its insurance operations, especially GEICO and reinsurance businesses, have historically supplied important capital for investments in other companies.
The modern Berkshire was created from the combination of textile companies, but Buffett eventually shifted its strategy away from textiles and toward insurance and investments. The textile operations were eventually closed. Omaha is therefore the company’s corporate base, although Berkshire owns businesses and investments around the world. The city should not be confused with New York, where many major financial institutions and stock exchanges are located.
