Berkshire Hathaway has its corporate headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska.
The company’s address is Kiewit Plaza in downtown Omaha. Warren Buffett has led Berkshire Hathaway since 1965, when his investment partnership acquired control of the struggling textile manufacturer. Buffett transformed Berkshire into a diversified holding company through acquisitions and investments.
Berkshire’s businesses have included insurance, freight rail transportation, utilities, energy, manufacturing, retailing, and services. Its major insurance operations include GEICO and General Re. The company also owns BNSF Railway and has held large publicly traded investments.
The Omaha location is central to Berkshire’s identity and to the phrase “Omaha” often used in financial coverage of Buffett. Berkshire Hathaway’s history began with two textile companies that merged in 1955, and the modern company is very different from that original manufacturing business. Headquarters in Omaha does not mean every subsidiary operates there.
